WHITTIER – Shortstop Diego Helguera went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI to lead Rio Hondo College at the plate in an 11-2 loss to visiting Pasadena City College on Saturday.
Pasadena swept the three-game South Coast Conference series after they beat the Roadrunners 8-7 in 14 innings on Tuesday and 14-2 at PCC on Thursday.
Rio Hondo totaled nine hits in Saturday's series finale but left seven runners on base.
Trailing 6-0 in the fifth, Helguera drove in the Roadrunners' first run with an RBI groundout that brought home Joshua Oh. Helguera knocked in Oh again, this time with a single in the seventh, to close out the Rio Hondo scoring.
Helguera added a two-out double in the third but was stranded on base. Oh went 2 for 2 for a solid day on offense.
The loss dropped Rio Hondo to 9-28 overall and 5-16 in conference play. The Roadrunners close out the season with a three-game SCC series vs. Compton College. Game 1 is set for Tuesday (Apr. 21) in Whittier at 2 p.m.
